Facebook Instagram
Late Application period:
February thru June. Applicants will be placed on a waitlist. Parents/Guardians will receive a phone call and email only if the school has an opening at the applicants’ grade level, and we reach the student’s number on the waitlist.
Busing is provided for the following towns: Region 15 (Middlebury/Southbury), Naugatuck, Terryville/Plymouth, Thomaston, Wolcott and Waterbury. Surrounding towns are encouraged to apply, but no transportation is provided!
Qualifications:
- Students are eligible for a seat only in the grade they apply for.
- You must list the town you live in at the time that you apply. Proof of Residence will be required, if your child is accepted. If you move from that town, you must notify us about the change of address.
- You will be asked if your child has a sibling currently at WAMS. A sibling is a biological brother or sister residing in the same household. Nieces, nephews, and cousins will not be considered as a sibling. Half brothers and sisters as well as step brothers or sisters must be living within the same home.
- Although WAMS has a sibling preference, there is no guarantee a sibling will get in. It depends on how many openings are available for the applicant’s grade level.
- Current Grade 12 students cannot be considered siblings as they will not be in the school when the child you are applying for enters.
- If your child is on the waitlist and the school has an opening for the applicant’s grade level, and we reach your child’s number, we will contact you by phone and email. Please check your voicemails and emails regularly. It is your responsibility to notify us if your phone or email changes. If you don’t respond in the allowed time, we will go to the next student on the waitlist and the seat will no longer be available for your child.
- If you reside Out of District, or your child has not previously attended a Waterbury Public School, you must schedule an enrollment meeting during June with the Magnet School Specialist.
- Students that are accepted from towns outside of Waterbury must still register their child with their town of residence.
- If your child does not get a seat, you must re-apply again in October, when the lottery opens for the following school year. Applications do not roll over to the following year. There is a new lottery and waitlist every year.
- The date and time that you submit your application (within the application period) has no bearing on the results.
- If you withdraw your child from WAMS, you can only gain re-entrance by applying through the lottery again.
